The DIN EN 14033-1 standard specifies the technical requirements for the operation of machinery and vehicles used in the construction, maintenance, and inspection of railway tracks and associated infrastructure. It applies to railbound machines that solely operate on railways and utilize adhesion between the rail and wheels for movement.
The standard encompasses various aspects of railbound machines, including their operation on signaling and control systems. However, it excludes machines that fall under other European Standards, as outlined in Annex I. While the document is primarily written for a nominal track gauge of 1435 mm, it acknowledges the potential for special requirements related to narrow gauge or broad gauge lines, tramways, non-adhesion rail systems, road-rail machines, and metro/light rail systems.
Furthermore, the standard covers both the movement of machines as a train and their movements to access and operate at work sites. Annex B provides information on specific national conditions applicable to member states.
