Test Methods for Determining the Contribution to the Fire Resistance of Structural Members - Part 3: Applied Protection to Concrete Members
Also Known As:
EN 13381-3 is a standard that focuses on the test methods for determining the contribution of applied fire protection to the fire resistance of structural concrete members. It covers a range of concrete members such as slabs, floors, roofs, and walls, including beams and columns within these members. The standard is applicable to concrete of different types, including lightweight, normal weight, and heavyweight concrete, and covers all strength classes.
The purpose of this standard is to determine the performance of fire protection materials in terms of their ability to stay intact and firmly adhere to the concrete member during exposure to fire. The testing includes various types of fire protection materials, such as sprayed materials, coatings, cladding protection systems, and multi-layer or composite fire protection materials. The standard also considers the presence or absence of a gap between the fire protection material and the concrete member.
The tests conducted as per this standard aim to evaluate the temperature distribution throughout the protected concrete member when subjected to the standard temperature-time curve for fire resistance testing. The test method, test results, and assessment approach defined in EN 13381-3 are not applicable to structural hollow concrete members.
