BS EN 13381-5:2014 is a European standard that provides a test method for determining the contribution of fire protection systems to the fire resistance of structural concrete/profiled sheet steel composite members or slabs. The standard covers a range of concrete types and allows for various thicknesses of the applied fire protection material.

The test method is applicable to all types of fire protection materials used for the protection of concrete/steel composite members, including sprayed materials, coatings, cladding protection systems, and multi-layer or composite fire protection materials. The standard includes tests to determine the ability of the fire protection system to remain coherent and fixed to the composite member and provides data on temperatures throughout the depth of the concrete and the unexposed surface when exposed to a standard temperature/time curve.

The standard also addresses special circumstances where reactive protection materials are subjected to a smouldering curve. It outlines the collection and presentation of data that can be used to calculate the fire resistance of concrete/steel composite members and provides guidance on data analysis and interpolation. The limits of applicability of the test results are defined, allowing for direct application of the results to different steel/concrete composite structures, steel types and thicknesses, concrete densities, strengths, thicknesses, and production techniques.
