The AS/NZS 3679.2:2010 standard outlines the requirements for the production and supply of welded I sections used for general structural and engineering purposes. It provides guidelines and specifications for the manufacturing and quality control of these sections.

However, it is important to note that this standard does not cover other aspects of structural steel, such as the production of hot-rolled bars, steel plates for pressure equipment, floorplates and slabs, carbon steels and carbon-manganese steels in the form of hot-rolled bars and semifinished products, structural steel hollow sections, steel reinforcing bars for concrete, quenched and tempered plates for structural and pressure vessel steel, or built-up I sections manufactured in accordance with other specified standards.

The standard also includes Appendix A, which provides guidelines to purchasers on the requirements that should be specified and agreed upon for each order. Appendix B specifies how product conformity with the standard should be assessed. Additionally, for New Zealand only, Appendix E outlines additional requirements for welded steel sections used in fracture critical applications.
