Standard EN SampleStructural Steel - Hot-Rolled Bars and Sections
Also Known As:
AS/NZS 3679.1:1996 is a standard that outlines the requirements for the production and supply of hot-rolled structural steel bars and sections. It specifies that all grades mentioned in the Standard are suitable for welding, riveting, and bolting for general structural and engineering applications. The welding should follow AS/NZS 1554, while the riveting and bolting should comply with AS 1538, AS 3990, AS 4100, and NZS 3404.
However, it does not cover other types of structural steel, such as hot-rolled plates, floorplates, slabs, welded I sections, and hollow sections. These are covered under different Australian and New Zealand Standards mentioned in the Standard. Additionally, it does not include steel plates for pressure equipment, carbon steels and carbon-manganese steels, steel reinforcing bars for concrete, and quenched and tempered plate for structural and pressure vessel steel.
The Standard provides guidelines in the form of appendices. Appendix A provides instructions for purchasers on the requirements that should be specified, while Appendix B offers guidance on how to demonstrate compliance with the Standard. Appendix C contains guidelines on the cold-bending of rounds, flats, and squares during fabrication. These appendices assist users in understanding and implementing the Standard correctly.
