The BS EN 1852-1:2018 standard specifies the requirements for polypropylene (PP) piping systems used in non-pressure underground drainage and sewerage applications. These piping systems are designed for use both inside and outside building structures. The standard covers solid wall pipes with smooth internal and external surfaces, and it includes specifications for pipes, fittings, and the overall system.

The standard applies to PP materials without mineral modifiers and provides test parameters for the test methods mentioned in the document. It is important to note that this standard does not cover solid wall multilayer pipes with different formulations throughout the wall or foamed core pipes, as these are covered by a different standard.

The standard includes recommendations for nominal sizes, pipe series, and colors. The responsibility falls on the purchaser or specifier to select the appropriate aspects, considering their specific requirements and any relevant national regulations or installation practices.

In conjunction with CEN/TS 1852-2, this standard is applicable to PP pipes and fittings, as well as joints with components made of other plastics and non-plastics materials. The fittings can be manufactured by injection-moulding or fabricated from pipes and/or mouldings.

It is worth mentioning that pipes, fittings, and other components conforming to other plastics product standards can be connected to those conforming to this standard, as long as they meet the joint dimensions requirements and the requirements specified in Table 14.
