Precast Concrete Products - Beam-and-Block Floor Systems - Part 4: Expanded Polystyrene Blocks
Also Known As:
The DIN EN 15037-4 standard outlines the requirements and performance criteria for blocks made of expanded polystyrene (EPS). These EPS blocks are used in conjunction with precast concrete beams for the construction of beam-and-block floor systems. The standard also allows for the use of EPS blocks that have a combination of materials, such as plaster or wood wool, as long as these materials do not contribute to more than 50% of the block's mechanical resistance.
It is important to note that if the EPS blocks are combined with other materials that do contribute to more than 50% of the mechanical resistance, they are covered under a different standard, EN 15037-5, which specifically addresses lightweight blocks for simple formwork. The annex of the standard, Annex B of EN 15037-1:2008, provides examples of different typologies of floor systems that can be constructed using these EPS blocks and precast concrete beams.
