Gully Tops and Manhole Tops for Vehicular and Pedestrian Areas - Part 4: Gully Tops and Manhole Tops Made of Steel Reinforced Concrete
Also Known As:
The DIN EN 124-4 standard is specifically designed for precast gully tops and manhole tops made of steel reinforced concrete. It establishes guidelines for these components with a clear opening up to and including 1000 mm, which are intended to cover gullies, manholes, and inspection chambers in areas that experience both pedestrian and vehicular traffic.
The standard identifies various classes of areas where these gully tops and manhole tops can be used, ranging from areas exclusively for pedestrians and cyclists (class A 15) to areas for all types of road vehicles (class D 400) and even areas with high wheel loads such as docks and aircraft pavements (class E 600 and F 900). This means that the standard covers a wide range of applications and ensures the durability and strength of the steel reinforced concrete components in various usage scenarios.
It's important to note that this standard should be used in conjunction with other parts of the DIN EN 124 series, namely DIN EN 124-1, DIN EN 124-2, DIN EN 124-3, DIN EN 124-5, and DIN EN 124-6. These other parts provide further specifications and guidance for frames and combinations of covers/gratings made of steel reinforced concrete.
However, there are certain exclusions to the standard. It does not apply to concave gratings for certain classes of areas, gratings/covers as part of prefabricated drainage channels, floor and roof gullies in buildings specified in DIN EN 1253, and surface boxes. These exceptions should be considered when implementing the standard.
