Standard EN SampleGully Tops and Manhole Tops for Vehicular and Pedestrian Areas - Gully Tops and Manhole Tops Made of Steel Reinforced Concrete
Also Known As:
BS EN 124-4:2015 is a European standard that provides guidelines for the design and construction of gully tops and manhole tops made of steel reinforced concrete. These precast structures are used to cover gullies, manholes, and inspection chambers in areas that are subject to pedestrian and/or vehicular traffic. The standard specifies the maximum clear opening size of 1,000 mm and classifies the tops based on their intended use and the level of traffic they can withstand.
The standard identifies different classes of gully tops and manhole tops based on the type of area they are installed in, such as areas for pedestrians and cyclists, car parks, kerbside channels, carriageways, and areas with high wheel loads. It also provides guidance for the combination of covers/gratings made of steel reinforced concrete with frames specified in other parts of the EN 124 series.
However, the standard does not cover certain types of gratings, such as concave gratings for certain classes and gratings/covers used in prefabricated drainage channels. It also excludes floor and roof gullies in buildings and surface boxes.
