Gully Tops and Manhole Tops for Vehicular and Pedestrian Areas - Part 5: Gully Tops and Manhole Tops Made of Composite Materials
Also Known As:
The DIN EN 124-5 standard specifies the requirements for gully tops and manhole tops made of composite materials for installation in areas with both pedestrian and vehicular traffic. These composite materials include C1, C2, and C3, and they must be produced using controlled automatic processes that result in a single structure without multiple pieces bonded together. The standard applies to gully tops and manhole tops with clear openings up to and including 1000 mm.
The standard categorizes the use of these tops based on the type of area they are installed in. This includes areas only accessible to pedestrians and pedal cyclists (class A 15), pedestrian areas, car parks, and car parking decks (class B 125), kerbside channels on roads (class C 250), and carriageways, hard shoulders, and parking areas for all types of road vehicles (class D 400).
It is important to note that this standard should be used in conjunction with DIN EN 124-1 and provides guidance for combinations of cover/gratings made of composite materials with frames according to DIN EN 124-2, DIN EN 124-3, DIN EN 124-4, and DIN EN 124-6. The standard does not apply to manually manufactured manhole tops and gully tops, gratings/covers of prefabricated drainage channels, floor and roof gullies in buildings specified in DIN EN 1253, and surface boxes.
