Railway applications - Track - Road-rail machines and associated equipment - Part 2: General safety requirements
Also Known As:
The DIN EN 15746-2 standard specifies the safety requirements for self-propelled road-rail machines and associated equipment used on railway networks and urban rail networks. These machines are used for construction, maintenance, and inspection of the railway infrastructure, as well as for shunting and emergency rescue vehicles.
The standard addresses the significant hazards, hazardous situations, and events that may arise during the assembly, installation, commissioning, operation, maintenance, and de-commissioning of these machines. It also includes common hazards presented by various machine functions such as excavation, ballast tamping, track construction, lifting, maintenance of infrastructure components, and more.
While the standard covers general safety requirements, it does not address specific requirements established by a railway Infrastructure Manager or Urban Rail Manager. It also does not detail negotiations between the manufacturer and the machine operator for additional or alternative requirements. The standard does not deal with machines that use the contact line system for traction purposes, requirements for use and travel of the machine on public highways, hazards due to air pressure caused by high-speed trains, extreme ambient temperatures, corrosive or contaminating environments, or potentially explosive atmospheres.
It is important to note that other special machines used on railway tracks are covered by separate European Standards, as mentioned in Annex E of the document.
