The standard applies to various types of bearers, including wood, concrete, and steel, in both ballasted track and slab track. It specifies the performance requirements for fastening systems in different track categories, defined by maximum axle loads and minimum curve radii. The track categories range from A to E, with category A having a maximum axle load of 130kN and a minimum curve radius of 40m, and category E having a maximum axle load of 350kN and a minimum curve radius of 150m.
It is important to note that this standard applies only to fastening systems that incorporate a resilient element and act on the foot and/or web of the rail. These fastening systems are intended for use with specific rail sections specified in EN 13674-1. The standard does not cover rigid fastening systems.
Furthermore, the DIN EN 13481-7 standard is focused on the type approval of a complete fastening assembly. Requirements for quality control are addressed in other standards that are applicable to individual components of the fastening system.
