BS EN 124-5:2015 is a European standard that applies to manhole tops and gully tops made of composite materials. These composite materials are classified as C1, C2, and C3, and are produced using controlled automatic processes to create a single structure without multiple bonded pieces. The standard specifies that these tops should have a clear opening of up to 1,000 mm and are used to cover gullies, manholes, and inspection chambers in areas with pedestrian and/or vehicular traffic.

The standard provides guidelines for the use of manhole tops and gully tops in different types of areas and traffic conditions. It includes class A 15 for areas limited to pedestrians and pedal cyclists, class B 125 for pedestrian areas, car parks, or car parking decks, class C 250 for the area of kerbside channels on roads, and class D 400 for carriageways, hard shoulders, and parking areas for all types of road vehicles.

BS EN 124-5:2015 should be used in conjunction with other standards, such as EN 124-1, EN 124-2, EN 124-3, EN 124-4, and EN 124-6, which provide guidance for the combination of composite covers/gratings with frames. This standard does not apply to manhole tops and gully tops manufactured using the hand lay-up method, gratings/covers as part of prefabricated drainage channels, floor and roof gullies in buildings, or surface boxes.
